For years now I have attempted the perfect top knot that I so often see celebrities styling. Not the top bun (you can view that tutorial here), but a knot. I spun, twisted, etc and it never came out right. Something about the fall just makes me crave a good top knot. I think it’s the perfect pairing with oversize turtleneck sweaters and skinny jeans. It is chic without looking too done- personally I think Olivia Palermo’s are spot on always.
This top knot tutorial I am about to share is perfect for rushed mornings or lack of time, or in my case, the end of a perfect blowout run. However, it’s important to not have your hair look messy and dirty. I am firm believer in not washing your hair everyday and so I typically only wash mine 1-2 times a week- but I don’t want my hair to look like that- even my top knots (the trick is to make people think its always clean!)! About two months ago, I started washing more frequently because I felt like my hair was losing some of its shine and softness, thus looking poor in top knots, pony tails and even down curled. However, a few weeks ago, I picked up the Dove Pure Care Dry Oil Products and I am happy to report that my hair is definitely the shiniest and silkiest it’s been in awhile. Within about 3 washed of using the conditioner, shampoo and oil I truly noticed a difference. Plus, the Pure Care Dry Oil is a fraction of the cost of what I typically pick up at the salon and the results are the same if not better: nourishing. An added bonus to the silk and shine is that my curls hold even longer than they did previously which means I can stretch my washing and style an adorable top knot at the end of the 3rd or 4th day.
Recently, I stumbled upon a top knot tutorial to make the perfect top knot every time and I have been sporting this style at least once weekly. I thought I’d take some time to share a brief tutorial with y’all!
1. Start with a pony tail wherever you’d like your knot to be. You can pull some hair down around the face to frame it towards the end or during this stage. I like mine a little messy, so I don’t pull too tight.
2. Splitting the hair into two equal parts wrap one section of the hair around the pony tail loosely. Secure with 2-3 bobby pins.
3. Taking the other section of hair, loop in the OPPOSITE direction of the first loop. This will create a little fold looking style. Secure with 2-3 bobby pins. You can not pull your bun to even out the sides and secure loose “fly aways” with bobby pins (or keep them out for a messier look).
Voila, cute, shiny (thanks to Dove) and EASY top knot tutorial!
I truly recommend these products (and the top knot) if you’ve been feeling your hair is a little lack luster as of late. The amazing thing is that if you are not completely satisfied with the Dove Advanced Hair Series Pure Care Dry Oil system, Dove will refund your purchase (from 9/21 –
