It’s time to get serious about Baby L joining this world soon and preparing what we still need for him or her. I’ve been checking our registry at Buy Buy Baby constantly, seeing what baby essentials are left, what we need to grab ourselves and trying to think “do we really need that?” about items still available.
I’m so thankful to have great readers like all of you that share opinions and advice on baby essentials and also such a great group of people close to us who are open to sharing their experiences, advice, etc. I definitely think preparing for baby is a trial and error process. I’ve read so many articles on what you actually need and do not need for baby, but I also think as new parents, it’s a rite of passage in a way to find out for yourselves. However, I will say, I’ve tried to keep the advice we’ve received in mind throughout the registering process, buying process, etc. Of course, there are still things I read we don’t need, but I registered for (*cough* wipe warmer), but it does seem that there is an agreement from parents on what baby essentials in fact you DO NEED. Pretty much everyone we’ve spoken with has relayed much of the same information on what baby essentials you need stock piles of, so today I wanted to pass that advice along to all of y’all and share what we are in fact stockpiling!
- Swaddles: I’ve heard if your swaddle game is strong, your life will be easier. Therefore, we registered for a few and people have also been gifting them to us off our registry further signifying to me that a swaddle can be your best friend when it’s time for baby to catch some Z’s. These are some of the best I’ve heard.
- Diaper Variety! Something I’ve been told time and time again is to not stock pile one size. Since you have no idea how quickly baby will grow, it’s better to start with a box of each N, 1 and 2 sizes and go from there. However, stock up on as many wipes as you’d like! You’ll go through a ton of those!
- Books: Okay, maybe not a necessity, but babies never grow out of books and they are the perfect way to settle into a routine with your little one. I love the idea of reading each night to him or her while going through our nighttime routine. It’s one of the things I look most forward to.
- Sleepers: For obvious reasons, you need a few in each size. Babies have blowouts, accidents, etc. which means a few changes per day. So to save you sanity and laundry every day, maybe grab a few in each size to get you through 2-3 days at a time. Also, I’ve heard zippers over snaps for 100%!
- Baby friendly Laundry Detergent: See #4, you will be doing a lot of laundry and baby clothes require certain detergent due to their very sensitive skin! You may not need seven jugs to start, but 2-3 wouldn’t hurt!
- Feeding/Mom Supplies: If you plan to breastfeed, all the supplies that comes along with it (nipple creams, etc.) can be great to have on hand and the experience much better (my sister in law said these are a must have)! If you’re bottle feeding, I’ve read having plenty of bottles to save time washing can be a life saver too!
- Carrier: Besides a safe and reliable car seat, I’ve had so many people tell me that baby wearing saved them from losing their minds, so you bet I registered for a few (we registered for this one and this one).
- Safe place for sleeping: For you, this may be a bedside bassinet, a baby lounger, crib, etc. We have a few we’ll be using since our home is two stories. Regardless, of what you decide, make sure it’s safe!
- Storage Bins/Totes: For your sanity, it would be great to have bins/totes, etc. to throw store all those baby goodies. I have plans to have bins all around the house so I can at least pretend to keep a bit or order to our home. Plus, it makes “cleaning up” much easier!
- First aid and safety items: Luckily, Buy Buy Baby made this easy and we just picked this one.

What other baby essentials do you swear by? I’ve heard such mixed reviews on swings, etc. but we have a few different options thankfully for Baby L to see what she/he likes. When we registered, the staff at Buy Buy Baby was so accommodating and helpful, so even though we’ve never done this before, I feel at least slightly knowledgeable! Haha Or maybe that’s just what I keep telling myself! Oh and how do we register for a live in nanny without paying? LOL #onecandreamright?
If you have any advice for this mom noob, let me know…seriously!
Thanks for reading friends, I appreciate cha’ all so much!
