My Favorite Bloody Mary Recipe

I love brunch. It’s rich, savory and also has some of my favorite beverage pairings (think coffee, mimosas and Bloody Mary’s. I have such a hard time deciding what beverage to order when we go, so I always let Aaron order his drink first and then proceed to order the opposite so I can take a swig of his. I will say, he usually shies away from mimosas (although he will drink them at home! Have to keep that man card safe!) I love a good mimosa, or who am I kidding, hold the OJ give me the champagne, but I also love a good chunky Bloody Mary. I didn’t always like them, but in college there was a bar we used to go to and the bartender made the best BMs. One catch: you couldn’t order them after 5pm because in his eyes, they were a day time drink. It’s weird, but I have never had one after 5pm. I agree, they just seem like a brunch drink to me. Anyway,  lately Aaron and I have been trying to “brunch” more at home and not eat out as much which means I’ve been perfecting my Bloody Mary recipe (or at least I’d like to think). I use this recipe, but make a few changes as I go and of course, I always switch up the toppings because it keeps things interesting.

I know that blending the recipe in a blender isn’t really necessary. Technically you could just mix it all in a container with a spoon, but I love how it seems to blend everything a little extra and gives it a little extra “chunk.” A few things that I do differently than the recipe are as follows. 1. I like to line my glass rim with a mix of Pink Himalayan Salt and black pepper. I know this adds extra sodium, but I do buy the low sodium V8 so I feel like it balances out. Next, I actually don’t use the horseradish. Not because I don’t like it, but because I don’t cook with it and it’s shelf life doesn’t last very long to only have it for a cocktail. I find that adding a little bit more spice from hot sauce and a dash of cayenne pepper and ground cumin do the trick for my spice level! That’s the great thing about this drink though, you can garnish or spice it however you’d like! As for vodka, I always use my go to Original Pinnacle ® . It’s got great flavor, is affordable and it’s just what I’ve always used.

For garnish, I leave out the green beans, but if there is bacon in the house, you bet it’s going in! I am all about the garnish, so the more the merrier!  I am hoping to have a Bloody Mary bar party soon with all the fixins! How fun would that be?

Are you a Bloody Mary fan? I feel like they are either hit or miss with people! Some of my friends love them and some do not.
