Coffee Beans and Bobby Pins

A little weird.

September 18, 2012

These pictures are a defining moment for me as a blogger. One weekend when fiance was home visiting (can you visit somewhere you technically live?) we were driving along when he said, “hey lets go get some pictures by those flowers.” Sounds pretty good, right?
Yerrr….except that the said flowers were actually in the middle of a very busy walking path. I kind of looked like a deer in headlights hesitated for a moment to myself and then thought “alright Amy, if you want to be a big kid blogger, you need to put on a big kid face and stare that camera in the eye while ignoring the fact that your in heels and a pencil skirt amongst some serious power walkers.” And so, that’s what I did. I hiked up my pencil skirt and gave those walkers some entertainment.
Ever since then, I kind of just brush off the fact that people think I’m a weirdo when Im outside of my apartment complex or walking down the streets of Nashville taking numerous pictures of myself. Although it is definitely still awkward, I just figure we’re all a little weird in some way or another. I just happen to pull someone else into my weirdness (whether it be an inanimate object like a tripod or a buddy).

::Skirt Target (here), Shirt J.Crew, Necklace Ebay, Jewelry Francescas Macys David Yurman, Bag Michael Kors (here)  and (similar here), Shoes Nine West, Sunnies Coach::
Tell me, how are you a little weird? Still get the nerves when out in public snapping photos of yourself?
P.S. Let’s all ignore my roots in these pics and pretend they aren’t there. Im trying to time hair appts. for the wedding and so far I just look like a hilbilly.

P.P.S. Fiance, for having such a great eye for scenery, thanks for telling me part of my necklace was flipped!

I haven't yet gotten the guts to take pictures in front of that many people!!! Yikes!! Part of it is that I use a tripod instead of having someone photograph me – I might be more inclined to do it if I didn't use a tripod.

Also, I love that skirt…to anyone else who does, my Target had them on sale this past weekend for $11.50, so check your local Target!!

i'm proud of you! it is REALLY hard, especially the first time, taking photos where people are walking by, or staring at you. i tend to stare back. i mostly am afraid of them nabbing my tripod and camera and running, really. if they watch me, i watch them. and indeed, the photos turned out great! I LOVE that striped skirt on you – and those photos of you on the bench are adorable.

I am the WORST at taking pictures of myself. Before I had the baby I used to take outfit pictures of myself in my classroom using photobooth and had to wait for students to be gone or not looking and it was super awkward running back and forth from my computer. Now that I have to get dressed again for work I should start posting outfits again. LOVE this look of yours.

I wouldn't worry about it–I bet they were all admiring your outfit, because this look is adorable! I don't really take outfit pictures because I can't seem to find the time (although I wish I could!), but I have a feeling that I wouldn't even be given a second glance in NYC. The great thing is, there is ALWAYS someone doing something (or looking) weirder than you!

I HATE getting my photo taken, even if it's me and the partner and no one's around. I am super camera shy, but working on this slowly. I also feel like an asshole taking outfit photos, but at the same time, I want to show my latest thrifted finds and they just don't look good on the hanger. ๐Ÿ™‚ Hmmm, how am I weird? Let's see…I collect things with horses on them (sweatshirts, purses, figurines), but I've never actually rode a horse (that's weird, right?); I like to sit on the floor at the thrift store to dig (I have no shame); I really could go on. I think it's our weirdness that makes us wonderful! ๐Ÿ™‚
