…tips on buying bridal jewelry.
Last week, I was SO lost on what kind of jewelry to get for my BIG day. So naturally, I wanted to put together a little list of tips for selecting the perfect wedding day jewels.
1. First and foremost, your engagement ring and wedding band are the stars of the show, so keep your other choices of rings to a minimum. If you wear Grandma’s 6 carat diamond, you may take away from your own rings. You want to highlight that beauty, not overshadow it.
2. Stay within your budget. I know its easy to find something you love and just splurge, but wouldn’t you rather spend that money on something else like a great pair of shoes, more flowers or the honeymoon? With sites like Amazon and Etsy nowadays, its easy to find something you love without breaking the bank.

3. Don’t postpone your purchase. You definitely want your jewelry at your fittings to make sure it goes together. Plan on purchasing your jewelry a month out from your first fitting to ensure that it is in on time. Then, if you don’t like it at the fitting, you still have plenty of time to find something else.
4. Keep your theme and overall feel consistent. This doesn’t mean if you’re having a beach wedding you can’t have beautiful jewelry, your can. But is a tiara and diamond choker going to blend in with your simple flowy wedding dress? It could, but my guess is probably not. Remember what type of vibe you’re going for and try to match that, remember, people will remember your dress more than your jewelry.
5. If all else fails, go for pearls. They are classy, can be simple or elegant and come in a wide range of prices depending on if you want real, fake, fresh or salt water. Plus, pearls are always a classic staple to have in your jewelry collection and can be worn again and again.
What kind of jewelry did you wear or see yourself wearing? Any other great tips you have? Please share!

hi amy! great post! i spent mooooonths trying to figure out what earrings to wear on the big day. i'm not a huge necklace person, and i was wearing a large, sparkly hair pin, so i wanted to keep the rest of the jewelry classy. here's a what i ended up getting: http://www.tamimelissaphotography.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Natalie.Jason_.OneAtlantic-0008.jpg. i wore the tear drop earrings for the ceremony and swapped them out with the large dangly ones for the reception! it's a fun way to change up your wedding day look, especially if you're not changing into a reception dress!

I agree with all of your ideas. I'm a big believer in less is more when it comes to your wedding day. The dress, veil, flowers and all add so much to your look, leaving no need to go over the top with jewelry. Yes! Pearls will always be timeless.

I really wanted to showcase my beautiful rings so I went with minimal jewelry. I wore a pair of Stella & Dot earrings – here's the link: http://shop.stelladot.com/style/b2c_en_ca/shop/earrings/earrings-all/deco-drop-earrings.html. I also wore a bracelet my parents had given me years ago and then I wore a hair piece. My dress was lace and the theme was vintage so I thought my jewelry really complimented the look I was going for. Check out Stella & Dot for other wedding jewelry – http://www.stelladot.com/meganmaddison – they have some great ideas and at great prices 🙂

Great post! I haven't thought about my wedding jewelry in a long time so it was fun to reminisce through this post! I wore small diamond studs and a sparkly cuff from Forever 21. It's probably crazy sounding that I wore something from F21, but we were on a budget and I knew I would never wear it again. BUT, I'm so glad I wore it – it was the perfect thing!
And I agree, minimal is better! You don't want to overshadow your rings or your dress!

These are great tips! On my wedding day I wore rhinestone earrings and a bracelet. I didn't wear a necklace since I had a rhinestone belt on my gown and didn't want to overpower it.

On my wedding day I kept the jewelry simple in the church because I had a cathedral length lace veil, and then changed into a big pearl and gold statement necklace! These are great tips, hope the wedding planning is going well 🙂

I borrowed jewelry from my mom for the wedding. I layered necklaces and wore her drop pearls. It was perfect, and though the necklaces were expensive, it worked out wonderfully because she was so happy that I wore them and I loved them as well.
The Avenue Vee says
When is your big day Amy?
I think the best is to always go with something simple & minimal. I don't necessarily find it as aesthetically appealing when jewelry is overdone. I think the most important piece is your beautiful & perfect dress that I am sure you spent hours trying to find and I think jewelry should only accentuate the dress and not take away from it. Like they say, simple is better! Look forward to see what you picked out in the end!
ps. I am following you now on GFC, stay in touch!
