Friday’s Top Five…

October 26, 2012

…easy DIY costumes

Hey all, TGIF! Still don’t have a costume? On a budget? No worries, this week we’re talking about easy, cheap and cute Halloween costumes you can whip together with little effort and little time.

#1. Rosie the Riveter:
What gal doesn’t have a chambray shirt, some red lipstick, and blue jeans? The only thing you’re possibly missing would be a red bandanna. Hobby Lobby, Michael’s and your typical craft store will have them for 1.00 a piece. Tie it up in your hair, flex those muscles, grab a wrench or other tool to carry around and wa-la!

#2. Couples Costume- Waldo and Wendy
Needed items: Red/White stripped shirt (or you can buy red duct tape and a long plain white sleeved shirt), blue jeans or jean skirt (for Wendy), black flats, a red beanie (Walmart, Target, etc will have these) and some black rimmed glasses. You can always include a prop to such as a camera or small dog.

#3. Group Costume- Scrabble Tiles:
Wear all black. Leggings, black shirt, black shoes. Affix cardboard letter on the front of you. Spell out a word with your group of friends!
#4. Jelly Fish:
White pants, white shirt, crepe paper, clear umbrella. Tape crepe paper to the bottom of umbrella to create tentacles.
#5. Carrie Bradshaw
So most men probably wont get who you are, but I would guess 95% of women would. Plus, you could always just claim to be a ballerina if people stare at you dumbfounded. Go to a craft store, get some light pink tulle, wrap it around elastic to create an easy tutu, grab a pink tank, tease out your curls and presto.
Obviously, there are tons of easy DIY for you last minuters! Pinterest is a great resource if you still need ideas!
So what’s everyone being? Im being a flamingo!

Love the Rosie the Riveter outfit. I saw a cool Medusa DIY post. She braided her hair all over, pinned it and put fake rubber snakes in her hair. A flamingo will be cute. Please post pics! Heather

Love it. And now I'm re-thinking my "cereal killer" (taking a bunch of cereal box labels and taping them on me, carrying around a spoon!) idea and maybe doing Rosie instead! Thanks for some inspiration!

Great ideas! My favorite is Carrie of course, but I also love the Rosie the Riveter. I'd never thought of being her, but it would be super simple and historically accurate (that's the history nerd coming out of me)!
