Coffee Beans and Bobby Pins

Friday’s Top Five…

…Holiday Hostess Gifts!

There is no requirement in the book of parties (does such thing exist, I made that up..) that states you HAVE to take a gift to the hostess of a party, but it is appreciated and a nice gesture. Think about the last time you threw a party, it was probably a lot of work. Instead of taking a bottle of wine this year, plan ahead and take something a little more creative- I promise your hostess will love it!

1. Have you seen these trays? I think they are so cute/different. Grab one of these off Amazon or Etsy.com and take some fixings of gourmet cheeses and crackers. Not only will your hostess use it for years to come, but she will appreciate the extra snack for the party! (Flattened bottles here and here). / 2. Grab a fun party game (Catch Phrase or Apples to Apples) / 3. Make a gift bag. Grab a cute mug (here) throw in a bag of nice coffee, tea or coco and wa-la! / 4. Coffee Table Book (Love this Series) / 5. Personalize it! With sites like Etsy.com it’s easy to customize a great gift for the party planner and stay within budget! (Platter here).

What’s your opinion on hostess gifts yay or nay? Every received anything particularly good or bad?

I host a Christmas party every year and I don't expect a gift but it is nice. I would love one of those win bottle cutting boards, so cute! A friend gave me a snowman wine stopper one year, I thought that was an adorable gift.

I think hostess gifts are a nice thing to give because the hostess is inviting you into her home & has spent time making her home lovely for you! I must confess I typically spend $15-25 on flowers to give the hostess. I guess my go-to gift is flowers because I love flowers 🙂

Great ideas, I would love to give (or receive) any of these. I think hostess gifts are definitely a do, also I think that you should only buy really expensive gifts if you know the person well or it's a special occasion, you've covered all bases!

I love Ina Garten and definitely wouldn't complain getting one of her books as a hostess gift 😀 I think it's sweet to give a gift to a hostess, but I think wine, chocolate, or flowers are the safest depending on how well you know the person.

If you are staying overnight at someone's house, it is (I think) required to give a hostess gift. Even to your nasty in laws. Even if that gift takes the form of bread and sandwich meat, just so there is something for lunch, as they do not eat lunch and it does not occur to them to provide it for their guests.

Wait. Let's make rules for hosts.

    1. You are responsible for feeding your guests all three meals. Liquor and diet Dr Pepper are optional. It would be nice if you have decent coffee, but if you drink crappy coffee, then there's not much the guest can do.

    2. If it is your offspring visiting, would you pick them up at the airport so they don't have to rent a car?

    3. The shower should be clean. As in, a mildewy shower curtain is not clean.

    4. Not required, but nice to have, especially with the pain it is to carry liquids now: Shampoo and conditioner in the bath are nice.

    5. If you are using the guest room as your junk room, please clear enough space for guests to put their stuff.

    6. Try to go just five days without getting drunk.
