…tips to beat the holiday bulge.
Hey all, thanks for the encouragement and kind words from yesterday’s post! Today I have some tips about beating the holiday bulge. I don’t know about you all, but every year after NYE, I always feel a little sluggish. So, this year (and because my wedding is coming up), I am determined to watch my goodie intake by following some simple rules.
#1. One for one.
Not only should you hydrate on a daily basis, but especially during the holidays. To avoid drinking too much and having a holiday hangover, institute the one for one rule. For every holiday cocktail, make sure you drink one glass of water. This will not only keep you from drinking too much, but it will cut down on the calories.
#2. Eat!
Yes, I said eat. Do not, I repeat, DO NOT head to a holiday party famished. Make sure you eat throughout the day (plenty of protein) so that you’re not eating everything in sight when you arrive. Also, opt for the smaller plate at the food table.
#3. Stay Active!
Don’t make excuses- putting your workouts off until the New Year when that resolution kicks in wont make you feel better. Do yourself a favor and don’t get lazy. Sweat it out- I honestly always feel better when I do.
#4. Be Adventurous.
Don’t go for the same.thing.you.always.eat. That’s boring (and dangerous). Me, I love cheese, so I would likely go back for two or three servings of that platter. This year go wild, try the hummus or the mystery roll ups.
#5. Don’t be a wallflower.
Mix and mingle. If you talk with people/friends then you’re less likely to hang out by the food table and you’ll drink slower. Besides, that’s what parties are for anyway right?

Great tips. I think the one about exercising is the one we break the most. We tend to stop exercising until the holidays are over. That just makes it harder to get back on track.

I've just started back on my "fight the holiday weight gain" campaign, haha. I've been trying to keep a note of when I know I'll be having bigger or unhealthier meals (like at parties, at work, etc) and plan around it! I've been keeping myself full with lower fat, higher protein foods and definitely amping up my workout game a little bit, just to combat everything! And it feels good to jump back on my fitness game before the new year. ๐
