Hey all, I know I said I’d be back today, but since I needed some much needed R&R, how about one more guest post? We haven’t had a DIY in a bit, so guest posting today we have Lauren from My Polished Side!
I am so excited to be revealing this craft on Coffee Beans and Bobby Pins’ blog!! So first of all thank you to Amy for having me and thanks to her readers for reading today!
Coffee mugs and crafts are going hand-in-hand lately. They are seen everywhere on Pinterest. And one of the first things you should know about me is that I love coffee. My morning is not complete without a cup of Joe. And as you can imagine, having a cute coffee mug to top of this morning ritual is key.
So today I bring you the easy, DIY chalkboard coffee mug project.
1. You need the following supplies to make these beauties: mugs, painter’s tape, chalkboard paint, paintbrush or paint sponge and a paper plate.
2. Next, you need to tape off the area that you wish to paint. (I chose the middle portions of my mugs but I have also seen where you tape off half the mug and paint the portion below.)
3. Using your paintbrush or paint sponge, paint a coat onto your mugs. It took me 3 coats and my paint (Martha Stewart Crafts — found at Michaels) instructions said to wait an hour inbetween each coat. So do as your paint instructs.
4. Another instruction to make sure you follow is to let the mugs dry (and cure) for 24 hours. After they have dried for 24 hours, remove the tape then bake them in an oven at 350 degrees for 35 minutes. When they are done, remove them from the oven and let them cool completely. Once they are cool, gently rub chalk over the entire chalkboard surface then wipe off. This is a conditioning step that is also on the paint bottle instructions.
Then write whatever message you wish on your new versatile, chalkboard coffee mug!
The only thing these mugs require is a little time and a little TLC with you and your coffee. So go make one and let me know how they turn out at My Polished Side Blog!

I've become obsessed with putting chalkboard paint all over anything I can get my hands on–but not a mug yet! What a great idea!

CUTE! I went to a wedding rehearsal last weekend and the bride and groom did this on wine glasses and beer steins and gave them out as bridal party favors with a piece of chalk attached.
