Coffee Beans and Bobby Pins

The Best Lengthening Mascara Found at Drugstore

February 27, 2013

Hello all- a good mascara is like a good pair of shoes- it’s important– dont’cha agree? No matter what other makeup I am wearing, even if none, I always feel more confident if I’m wearing mascara. I’ll leave home without any makeup on my face, but I always have something on my eyelashes. Remember this post when I forgot it? Yea…that was a BAD confidence night.

If you’re like me and LURVE mascara, then you probably hate spending 25-45 dollars on a decent tube, 98% of my makeup is MAC or some other fancy schmancy brand, but the one thing I always go to the drugstore makeup aisle for is the best lengthening mascara.

While I have been using the same brand for over two years now, I wanted to try some of the other lengthening mascaras out there.

Here I only have eyeshadow and liner on, no mascara.

#1. L’Oreal Voluminous False Fiber lashes. Overall, I liked the product, but didn’t feel it really lived up to the “false lashes” look claim. CVS: $9.49

#2. Rimmel Lash Accelerator. I wasn’t impressed with the lengthening on this one. Yes, it separated very nicely, but overall, I didn’t think it added the thickness and length I was looking for. CVS: $9.99

#3. Revlon Grow Luscious Plumping. I think Revlon should stick to making great lipstick. I wasn’t impressed with the over sized brush. I felt like I made more of a mess than anything and I had to work pretty hard to not clump the mascara. $8.99

#4. L’Oreal Telescopic Mascara. This has been my go-to and the best lengthening mascara for years now. I love its clean brush and the way it not only thickens, elongates and darkens. Of course, at $10.49 it’s the most expensive of the four, but I truly think it’s worth that and more. I thought this way by far the best of the four and I will continue to buy it until proven otherwise. My lashes literally almost touch my eyelids when I wear it.

Do you use a lash lengthening mascara? Which one? Which of the above do you think is the best lengthening mascara?

I love this review! I am on the perpetual search for good mascara and often fall into purchasing expensive beauty brands! I think I'll have to check this last one out!

i feel as strongly as you do about mascara, it's the one thing i HAVE to put on when i leave the house, and recently, i've been using the l'oreal false fiber lashes, but after this review, i think i'm going to give the telescopic a shot!

I've been wanting to try the L'Oreal mascara! I usually stick to a drug store version, too…unless I find a slightly more expensive one that really blows me away. Can we just talk about what amazing lashes you have in general?!

I agree that drugstore mascara is just as good (if not better) than the department store ones. I usually use either Maybelline Great Lash or Cover Girl's Lash Blast.

I actually prefer the look of the false fiber lashes on you! Thanks for the reviews though, I am obsessed with mascara and constantly trying new ones! I'm a total sucker for the expensive brands (hello Dior!), but I think that Maybelline is killing it lately in terms of mascara…I've tried almost every kind they have out right now and loved them all.

I've never tried a lengthening mascara, I typically use Benefit's Bad Gal Lash (just always loved it!) and since my eyelashes are naturally VERY curly (obvi), the lengthening has always made me a little nervous since they almost hit my eyelids anyway. This is definitely making me want to try the L'Oreal though – looks amazing on you!

I use Lancome Hypnose and YSL Faux Cils. They are more thickening, though. I really like Maybelline Lash Discovery for lengthening. I feel like it really captures every lash and makes them LOOONG! 🙂 I am getting lash extensions today so I am hoping I won't have to wear mascara for a while!

The fourth mascara definitely looked the best! Sometimes you do have to pay a tad more for good quality.

Believe it or not, I've only worn mascara three times in my life. My eye lashes are so long, it's hard to wear it.
