DIY Gold Dot Tray

May 1, 2013

My favorite kind of DIY’s include little effort with an outcome that makes a big impact. While this little tray is anything but BIG, I certainly love how it turned out. It was cheap, easy, and fun to do. Those three things are all winners in my book.
I actually did this project while sitting on the sofa watching Emma with a girlfriend. We talked, I dotted. Easy as pie.
Here is what you’ll need:
Gold Sharpie
White dish (I got mine at Target for $3.99)
Oven

Step #1: Wash and dry dish

Step #2: Clean and dry dish. Get to dotting. I did my dots free handed, but you can use a stencil as a guide. I wanted my dots to be sporadic (that, and it was less time consuming)

Step #3: Continue to dot (duh, right?)
Step #4: Once dotting is completed, pop into the oven and bake the dish at 350 degrees for 20 minutes. This helps the sharpie set.
Step #5: Cool dish and use away!
The whole project took me less than 35 minutes and now I have a cute little dish to use for jewelry and whatnot!
Im also looking for some guest posters while hubs and I are on our honeymoon coming up in two weeks. If you’re interested, email me at coffeebeansandbobbypins@gmail.com. We are also welcoming suggestions for places to visit in Paris, Rome, Florence and Venice!

    Really cute! ๐Ÿ™‚

I read on Pinterest that many people have issues doing it at 350, that it fades or comes off, so someone suggested instead doing it at 425 for 30 minutes….I haven't yet had the chance to try this incredible trend (but I plan to asap) so I don't know how accurate it is. Just thought I would be helpful and share that just in case, but hopefully you won't have any issues with it!

Fabulous!!! Oh and just a tip – I was at office max getting school supplies (and a little gold sharpie for mommy) and the employee told me that using the oil based gold sharpie works best for projects like this. I haven't tried mine out yet, but fingers crossed it works!
