When it comes to home decor, whether or not he realizes it, my husband actually has a huge say in what stays and goes. When we moved into our loft, I tried to keep things neutral in terms of the gender. I didn’t want something overly girly (even if I liked it) and I certainly did not want a Bachelor pad look-alike. He wont admit it, but he often has opinions on where things should go, etc. When we lived back in Ohio, we had a large oversized leather ottoman, that left coffee table styling a little difficult. My husband DID NOT want to get rid of that thing. To him, it was the perfect footstool, beer holder, remote bed, etc. However, with a little convincing, we found a cute little table on Craigslist when we moved that fit his taste (dark wood as opposed to the white one I wanted) and my taste (not a huge oversized ottoman for a smaller room).
While I realize that it’s JUST A TABLE, your living room focuses around two things in my opinion: the sofa and the table that sits with it. Its worth taking a little extra time to make it yours, even if it does serve a purpose as well. Here are some tips I found handy when I was working on styling ours.
1. Buy a tray. Lucite, wood, metal. It’s a great way to accessorize the table while still keeping functionality. Ours was bought here, painted and modge podged with scrap book paper.
2. Grab some books. Planning a wedding? Love Post Secret? Books give your guest something to look at and create great visual appeal. I choose Kate Spade Style and Domino for ours. I often flip through them mindlessly.
3. Candles. They smell nice and create ambiance. Nuff’ said.
4. Personality. Don’t forget to add you! Our piece of drift wood reminds me of days on the water, our DIY coasters remind me of one of the happiest days thus far in our lives and everyone can always use a little luck (4-leaf clover). These items were found/made inexpensively at antique stores, Marshalls, etc but they make all the difference in how I feel when I look at them.
The great thing about styling something easy like this, is that is not permanent! I often find myself switching up the books when Im bored or even the trinkets. Come Halloween, I think a candy dish is in order!

This has inspired me to clean up my cofee table! I usually have two piles of magazines, but it ends up just looking cluttered. When I work from home it also becomes my desk, so it needs to be as free of stuff as possible!
I'm lucky my table has a shelf on the bottom, so I think I'll move the magazines down there. I definitely need to get a tray! 🙂

In earlier days coffee table was not considered as the part of living rooms but now they
have become very popular and have taken place in the living rooms due to it's usefulness.
Thanks

Love that piece of drift wood! I've been on the look-out for a good piece every time we've been to the beach, but nothing has come close to the one you have!
