DIY Chair Re-cover

September 5, 2013

Hey, hey, Im back today with a VERY simple DIY. I bought a chair on Craigslist a bit ago and it needed a facelift. I loved the rustic look about it, but the covering wasn’t really matching with our blue/white/cream bedroom. So what did I do? I grabbed my 50% off coupon to JoAnn Fabrics (there is also an app) and headed out the door with my BFFE in tow. I decided on something simple, but we also did another chair at the time with a more vibrant color scheme. Shame on me for not taking a before pic (bad blogger!)

…………………………………….………………Here is What You Need………………………………………………..

1. Staple gun and staples
2. Fabric of choice (I got 1 yd. in case of error)
3. Quilt Batting (I got the cheapest possible)
4. Screwdriver to take seat on/off

 1. Start by taking the seat off your chair. Typically this can be done with a screwdriver.
Note: If fabric is already light, you may be able to simply cover. Due to the bright nature of the floral pattern, I covered in batting first. Another option would be to remove previous covering first. I avoid this step unless the fabric is a. smelly or b. in terrible condition.

 2. Lay seat on Batting and Fabric and cut out an 1-2 inches around the seat. I always leave a little extra for error and extra pull (to make sure it’s tight)
 3. First staple the fabric around the chair base. Once that is completed, staple the fabric around. Wrap the end of the fabric around the chair base like a present. If it seems loose, simply pull tight and staple again.
 4. After fabric is secure, re-screw chair base on chair.
5. Style and voila! This little chair has an adorable spot in our bedroom corner now!
All in all, this project cost me about 35.00. $20.00 for the chair on CL and about 15.00 for the fabric. I already had all of the materials on hand, so it even worked with our tight budget!!! WINNING! P.s. the lumbar pillow is from Target!
Have you ever tried to recover a chair or something?
Was this helpful at all?
