We’re all guilty of it, (I hope it’s everyone and just not me). Experts say you should wash you makeup brushes once monthly, do you? I know I don’t… ain’t nobody got time for that! However, after cleaning them for this post, I realized I need do it more often! It makes sense- the cleaner the brush, the cleaner your face and I truly believe that clean brushes will last longer, so when I do clean mine, here is how I do it.
First let me start by saying my brushes are not expensive, nor do they match, but they get the job done everyday. Some of them are Target, some MAC, and some are Sephora. I don’t use a fancy cleaner because I’d rather have a new lipstick than spend the money on something I might use once monthly (should I admit that?)
Anyway, here is how I DIY clean my makeup brushes:

Woah–I genuinely thought that was COFFEE with the dirty makeup water haha. I don't do this nearly enough (re: at all) so I now have a weekend project!

This is great advice! I bought a new set of brushes (e.l.f.), but still choose to use my dirty ones for some odd reason. I will definitely get better at cleaning my brushes, especially since I have two sets now! Head over to my blog to see my latest post.

It's so gross when you wash your brushes and see all the gunk/makeup come out haha! This is a great reminder to do more often

I agree – theres a lot of other things I'd rather spend my money on other than an expensive brush cleaner. I actually just wash mine with soap and water (when I remember to actually wash my brushes!) eekkk

Love this Amy. I clean my brushes once a week with Purpose facial cleanser since its oil free and for sensitive skin and I will be using the brushes all over my face, I treat the the same way I would treat my skin.

I do this every few months, but I don't wear much makeup. As I've gotten older, I tend to go makeup free during the day – go figure!

I actually started breaking out like crazy – exactly on the path where I sweep my bronzer on my cheeks! Talk about gross. I started washing them every 1-2 weeks in hopes of clearing it up. I didn't think about doing it in a mug, good idea!
