During the
summer, I always tend to wear less makeup: a little BB cream, blush, lipstick
and mascara and I’m typically good to go even for the office. Summer brings a
little color to the face and freckles to my nose (natural beauty if you will),
and I’m fine with it. However, since I forego the eye shadow, concealer, etc.,
etc., I am always looking for mascara that makes a big impact. I reviewed
drugstore mascaras here
awhile back, but today, I wanted to focus on two new mascaras that I’ve been
hearing about and wanted to give a try. Plus, they are a splurge vs. save so I
thought I would share my findings with you!

SAVE: The
first is Maybelline Volum’Express
Pumped Up Colossal Mascara. I picked this up from Walgreens on sale for
$5.00 and this mascara proves that beauty essentials can not only be effective,
but affordable. I honestly love Walgreens because it allows me to try out all
the new products on the market without breaking the bank. I actually picked up
my first tube of BB cream a few months ago wanting to join in on the hype, but
not completely sold. Once I found out I actually like the product, I was able
to experiment with brands, etc until I found just the right one!

Overall, I thought this product was
great– every.single.lash was separated and really prevented spider lashes from occurring.
I will admit I put on a few coats because it wasn’t covering quite as thick as
I like it, but with every coat, it didn’t clump or stick lashes together. For
the affordable price point, I was very pleased with this product. It separated
lashes while covering them, but also elongated after a few coats.

SPLURGE: The mascara splurge I tried
was Two-Faced, Better Than Sex Mascara. I went into Sephora and asked for their
best selling mascara the associate pointed me towards Benefit, but since I had already tried that brand and wasn’t that
impressed, I asked for another recommendation. She told me this mascara is
quickly starting to outsell their best and I can see why.

Overall, for $23.99 it wasn’t the most I’ve ever spent on mascara, but it was definitely more than the $5.99 version. I
thought it was great at hitting both the short and long lashes due to its unique
brush design, but it doesn’t quite separate the way the Maybelline one does (it didn’t spider up, it just wasn’t as good at separating like the other). However,
it does go on thicker making coat after coat application unnecessary and since
I enjoy a full lash, this was a positive aspect for me.

All in all, both mascaras were pleasing.
I tend to go through mascara a lot (I typically get a new tube once a month),
which is why I typically only buy my mascara from Walgreens since it’s
affordable and has tons of options to achieve those summer beauty looks. Both
brands brought +/- that the other didn’t. It just shows that just because
something is more expensive doesn’t mean it’s better. I loved both and will definitely
continue to use them through their life cycle.

What’s your mascara go-to? I always am in the market to try new ones!
