In my head I dream of a big patio one day with twinkle lights overhead, a built in brick fireplace, ivy grown trellis walls and a vast area of space for outdoor entertaining. Maybe one day. For now, we have a stainless steel grill and a small outdoor deck off of our dining room that looks over a wooded area. It’s not too shabby at all for our first home- but when we moved in it was lacking character. I love to entertain, so I knew I wanted to spruce up the space somehow and finally last week I got around to it right in time for the upcoming Fourth of July holiday. We are having guests in town this weekend, so I wanted to create a quaint and affordable area out back to hang out and have an adult beverage on. 

Sometimes it’s great to have a big to do, but sometimes small gatherings of only a handful of people are also great. I threw some Smirnoff Ice Watermelon Mimosa and sparkling water in the ice bucket because I think it’s always nice to have a refreshing beverage plus some water for guests. As far as nibbles, depending on how much time I have to throw something together, I may just put out some fresh fruit, or go all out with some charcuterie or something more elaborate. This coming holiday weekend, I plan to put out some fresh fruit, hummus and other nibbles as well as the whole shebang when it comes to grilling. As for the decor,  at first Aaron wasn’t too keen on me putting screws in the wood, but I think the ambiance the candle lanterns give the area is really nice now. I know this weekend for the Fourth it will be put to great use while some music plays. 

I am really excited about how big a difference the lanterns make and the beverage holder. I feel very at ease on the back porch and I am excited to see how this space evolves (and also if I can keep ym herbs alive!)

    I would have never thought to put those lanterns where you did but I absolutely love it! I'm in the process of sprucing up my balcony in my new apartment so this makes me even more motivated to get it done! If only my patio set would hurry up and be delivered already..

    I also have a tiny deck and try to come up with creative ways to make it more fun. I purchased an inexpensive outdoor rug from Target which has held up well and makes it pretty cute! I love your little space!
