Aaron and I recently got the chance to try a few bottles of Ribera y Rueda. We love Spanish wine and were very impressed with not only the taste of both, but how quick and easy their delivery method was. Literally to our door, no requirement to sign (which can be a huge pain if you work during the day!). The bottles were secure and ready to serve upon chilling (the white) and breathing (the red). We enjoyed the Verdeo one night on our back patio (one of our favorite past times during the summer), but the other we decided to pair it with a Spanish themed meal.
We often are looking for different recipes for summer that doesn’t just include grilling and I have to admit this Paella was delicious and so easy. I used this recipe but made a few tweaks adding WAY more spices (we like spicy) red pepper flakes and a little hot sauce while cooking. Additionally, I added the juice of one lime and some chopped onion along with the green onions. You can also use different meats or not as many, totally up to you!
We paired the dish with the Ribera del Duero Tempranillos which is a red grape variety. It was a delicious bold red that was dry. All of my favorite qualities of red wine. We’ve been to some great wine regions (Italy and Napa) and I would love to travel to Spain’s wine region one day. While typically fish goes well with white, I’m glad we decided to pair this with the red variety. The shrimp isn’t dominant in this meal, so the spice of the sausage and spices general pair nicely with the red flavoring. I love a good glass of wine, especially red and this paired with the spice nicely.
I think my husband was definitely sad when this meal was over and the leftovers were gone! The recipe makes enough for four, so this would be great for a summer dinner patio on the porch! Don’t forget to pair it with Ribera y Rueda for an outdoor
soirée!
