On Instagram (amy_cbandbp), you probably saw that we were in the woods this past weekend at my girlfriend’s family’s cabin. We arrived on Friday night after work and let me tell you, it was dark driving in and trying to find it. Driving up to the cabin almost felt like a horror movie scene- no cell service, no lights and no idea where we were going. I was joking with Aaron that I felt like we were living in the “Hill Have Eyes” film and he asked me the plot of the movie. I then realized actually was a little terrified and since I think that movie is the most disturbing ever, quickly asked him to change the subject since I was a scaredy cat. Eventually we made it in the pitch black and were greeted by friendly faces. Upon entering the cabin, I was mesmerized by the artwork all around us. I didn’t realize, but my girlfriends Grandmother is an artist and throughout their time vacationing/living in the cabin, she had created art in every room of the house. The bathroom walls were covered with magazine clippings/stamps and vibrant posters, while in the living room paints hung that she had done years ago. It was museum-esque with a touch of rustic charm.
When we woke up the next morning, I soon realized where her inspiration had/does come from. The area that was pitch black the night before had come alive from the sun. The cabin sits on a small stream and I can only imagine how sipping your coffee on the back porch could inspire you to create in such a setting. I mean, it inspired me to take these photos. 🙂
We geared up to spend the day outdoors exploring the woods, sitting by the fire and just relaxing. Lately, I’ve been carrying FlyJoy bars with me wherever I go and they were the perfect nibble when we got lost in the woods and didn’t know exactly how to get back. They come in an assortment of different flavors and are a delicious mix of quinoa, flax and chia seeds. I know it sounds super healthy- but Aaron doesn’t typically like those type of bars, and he was a fan! We shared our last one trying to navigate back. All and all, it was a fabulous weekend surrounded by good friends, stories about my friend’s grandmother’s art and beautiful nature which is the biggest canvas of them all.
If you’re wondering, I didn’t hike in this outfit, but I did campfire sit and make dinner in it! This jacket is surprisingly warm for a rain slicker and I love that it has a hidden hood that you can zip away. If you’re looking for something lightweight, I suggest giving it a try! I know raincoats can be so bulky and stiff sometimes!
Have you tried FlyJoy bars? I’d love to hear your favorite flavor! #goflyjoy
