Hey y’all! I’m super excited to share today’s post because our kitchen has truly been a labor of love since we bought our little house 2 years ago. When we first moved to Durham, we paid a ridiculous amount for rent, so we decided it would make more sense financially to buy something inexpensive to save money over the course of Aaron’s residency. We both agreed this would not be our forever or dream home, but I’ve still been trying to make it our “dream first home” ever since. ๐
Upon moving in, our kitchen had old laminate counter tops, dated backslash, bare walls where cabinets should have been, mismatched appliances and an odd little cutout in one of the cabinet spaces (and the list goes on!). If you want to see a before picture, head over to my Facebook page where I’m sharing one. Anyway, after some paint, some shelves built and a few DIY’s I can say that I am so overjoyed with how far it’s come. And I’m super excited about out most recent DIY (lining the kitchen drawers) with Walls Need Love. I finally feel like this is a place that I can live throughout the next two (+) years, enjoy cooking in and then will be appealing to buyers when Aaron and I move on to our next chapter in life.
Now about the project: I’ve seen people line their kitchen drawers before, but I wanted to take this project one step further. Our cabinets are old and we painted them upon moving in, but we did not paint the insides of drawers, etc and over time, they had become dirty and well, just not cute! Since I’d had such amazing luck with Walls Need Love products in our home (here and here), I knew I could trust that this project would not only make a huge impact, but also stick/work. I think the end result is adorable and I wanted to not only show you how it turned out, but give you a little glimpse into our space.
I love how the chevron is subtle in color, yet makes a big impact on the drawers. I originally wanted to use this paper, but I quickly realized the lemons were too big for my project. But, how adorable would it be in an entire kitchen!? This could also be really cute on the sides of drawers. Since the drawers do look so much better now (I completely lined the insides and outsides), I am itching to do our bathroom drawers. I was so happy to say goodbye to this ugly liner we’ve used for the last two years. Plus, it never stayed in place, so this solution is so much better and easy to wipe since it’s vinyl. And, since the paper is already sticky, you don’t have to mess with glues or adhesives…big win in my book.
I think the last thing I want to do for this room is get a rug for under our breakfast table, but I’m not sure what kind would be best (suggestions?). I do know that from where we started, this room is so much better and beautiful. I’m thankful to have a husband who is tolerable about my redecorating needs as well as my DIY ones. ๐ I will say that lining the drawers takes patience, but I truly think it makes a big impact and is totally worth it. I put some tunes on, brewed some coffee and just did a little bit at a time!
Are your drawers lined? If not, you’re in luck! You can use the code CBBP20 for 20% off your entire purchase of $30.o0 or more! The coupon will run 8/2 – 8/23! I was recently telling my gf that I am beyond obsessed with the paper in my bathroom (post here) and that after months it not only looks great, but hasn’t peeled, etc.
