Y’all this post has been a LONG time in the making. And when I say long, I mean pre- St.Lucia long. Luckily, the women at Close to Custom Linens have been patient and honestly, simply amazing. Our guest room has TERRIBLE lighting with only one window, so getting these photos was well, an act of the big guy upstairs. #thestruggleisreal Let me take you back to when we bought our house a few years ago. This room was painted dare I say it, poop brown (insert monkey covering eye emoji). Yes, that horrid color. I don’t know what’s worse, the fact that someone thought that was a good idea, or the fact that Aaron liked it. Well, I painted it a nice soft gray/blue and then we brought in our hideous furniture…Aaron’s futon from college. I hated our guest room for the first year we lived here, it was a mishmash of all the furniture we had in grad school and it made me feel sad for our guests. Then last year, Aaron FINALLY agreed to let me get a new bed and mattress and a proper guest room started to take shape.
First we brought in our old bed, I switched Aaron’s roller chair for a nice proper chair (although he hates it) and we actually added some art/mirrors to make the space look bigger (it’s a small room). But for the past six months, it was just not welcoming and it had a very ugly floral bedspread that I found on sale. It’s no brainer that bedding and curtains make a room, so when I got into contact with Close to Custom Linens, I was so excited because I knew I could actually make this small starter home guest room LEGIT. Sara who I worked with was an absolute dream and the nicest person ever. She sent some samples of fabrics I loved, plus their accompanying prints. That’s what’s so fantastic about the process, you find one fabric you love, and they basically do the rest. They have so many combinations of gorgeous, high quality fabrics that they’ve paired together to make you feel like you’re working with a decorator, even though you’re not. I let Sara know exactly what I was looking for, something neutral, soft and maybe blue-ish. I 100% think she delivered in the fabrics she sent, then it was just looking at the swatches, seeing what Aaron could live with and deciding what could take us from this home, to the next. They can even sew their duvets double sided in case you want to be able to switch things around without too much work.
Once we finalized the fabric, we submitted our order and then it was a waiting game. We ended up choosing the Venice Lagoon Collection, but I added in some white here and there too. π Literally, when I opened the bedding, I gasped. The quality far surpassed my expectations. I wont lie when I say I was expecting less than amazing quality for the price, but it was not at all. It’s even much better quality than our bedding which is from Pottery Barn (I know!). The linen is amazing and the double sided duvet satisfies my white needs and Aaron’s messy ones (flax).Β And the lined curtains are ahhhmazing. They pretty much block the light from the room regardless of if the blinds are down because they are that good.
And there you have it, our guest bedroom. Truth be told, I think Aaron prefers this room thanks to the amazing curtains that keep it so dark when closed. But you know what else is amazing?… Their customer service, design program and the fact that they also make shower curtains! (next stop, the guest bath).
Thank you Close to Custom Linens for making our guest bedroom more than bearable, but beautiful! And you can make your space beautiful too! Use the code AMY10 for 10% off your order!
