Baby things are adorable so it’s only normal that after a baby is born we automatically think about buying him or her a gift for their arrival. Cute sleepers, toys, etc., but what about mom? She just spent 40+ weeks carrying the new blessing and God only knows how many hours bringing them into the world, so don’t forget about her!
After Poppy was born, we were so blessed to have many people in our lives that came to visit, brought us gifts, sent us gifts etc. but before becoming a momma myself I was always curious what gifts new moms actually needed or wanted. Don’t get me wrong, anything and everything is appreciated because it shows people care, but when you’re in the throes of motherhood, some gifts are definitely more logical than others.
10 GIFTS FOR NEW MOMS THEY’LL ACTUALLY WANT
- Coffee, Coffee, Coffee. I recently discovered Mama Java and am smitten. It’s not only delicious, but the bags are such a fun pick me up for the new momma in your life. Something really cute/appreciated would be a little coffee basket with snacks, a new mug and of course, the java!
- Set Up a Meal Train. THIS was so helpful for us as we transitioned into parenthood. It also saves money and calories since you’re not eating out every night! We had people bring meals twice a week which seemed like the perfect amount. Food gift cards are a great idea too!
- Just for Her Stuff. Face masks, a new magazine or book, bath bombs. Any of these items for mom to take a moment for herself would be appreciated. I know when I had Poppy feeling clean and put together was huge for me the first couple of weeks, so a great “facial at home” products definitely provide a pick me up! DRY SHAMPOO for the win!
- Booze. She just spent 9 months alcohol free, so if your friend enjoys a nice beer or glass of red, a nice bottle would be appreciated. You could actually pair a bottle of wine with this Mama Java coffee and write a cute card like “For before 5 PM and for after 5 PM.”
- A few Minutes to herself. If you’re popping over for a visit, offer to let mom go take a long warm shower while you watch baby. Your gift of 30 minutes to her will be so appreciated.
- Loungewear. As new moms we live in it, so if you can find something cute and affordable for her, I say go for it. Cute loungewear at least makes us feel a little put together!
- Snacks and more snacks, especially if she’s breastfeeding.
- Keepsake box, book or something else sentimental for her and baby.
- Take a picture of her and baby while you‘re there. Too often moms and babies don’t get pictures because we’re too worried about getting picture of all the visitors. Even if she says no because she looks a mess, she’ll appreciate that picture in 20+ years.
- A new waterbottle. Sounds lame, but whether breastfeeding of not, moms need to stay hydrated. Getting her a cute new bottle is a great reminder for her to get her daily H2O in.
Another helpful thing is to call mom before heading over for said visit. She may need something form the store that you could help her by picking up in advance. The hardest thing as a new mom is getting out to run errands, so when people offered to do this for me, even if I never accepted, it was so appreciated!
I’d love to know what gifts for new moms helped you? Now, I am heading to make a cup of Mama Java and feed the little one!
