This popcorn bar post has been sponsored by Universal Pictures Home Entertainment, but all opinions are my own. Thank you for supporting the brands that make Coffee Beans and Bobby Pins possible! You’re the best!
This weekend the temps are dropping again which means I see lots of movie watching / couch sitting on the radar. I’m super excited because some of my girlfriends will be coming over and we plan on downloading the new Pitch Perfect 3 movie, now available on iTunes with new musical performances, gag reel and extended scenes not seen in theaters! I absolutely loved the first and second (Fat Amy is the best), so I’m excited to FINALLY see the last installment of the movie and thanks to easy downloads via iTunes, I don’t even have to leave my house to see it. Get as excited as I am and out the trailer below!
In honor of the film and some much needed girl time, I thought it would be fun to put together a DIY popcorn bar and share some ideas for making your #PitchesNightIn perfection! At any given time, we always have popcorn in our pantry because Aaron and I make it in the evenings often, but what makes it the best snack in our opinion is the ability to mix it up with what you already have on hand. In the mood for salty? Throw in some pretzel pieces. Need some sweetness? Throw in those left over Valentine’s Day gummies.

Here are some tips I used when I was putting together my popcorn bar!
- Offer a variety of sweet & savory. Sure, you want candy, but think about you options. There should be gummy deliciousness, plus something a little tarter (like the Sprees). And of course, don’t forget about the chocolate, bonus points for dark and milk varieties. As for savory, as mentioned above, you can go the pretzels route, or offer some seasoning blends. In this case, I kept it simple: ranch, salt and garlic. In the past we’ve also seasoned with Cajun, truffle salt (yum) and even taco seasoning.
- Keep it basic. You don’t want your bar to be too intense, so basics are also a necessity. Perhaps people don’t like “fixings” with their corn, no problem! Offering a variety of different popcorns are always appreciated too! And when all else fails, you can’t go wrong with some movie theater butter!
- Set Up – Cute but Simple. Make sure all the toppings have their own container and don’t forget to put a scoop of some sort in each one. Additionally, labeling the toppings helps attendees know what their options are crystal clear!
- Serve-ware: Make sure there are enough bowls and napkins for everyone! Bowls should be large enough for a generous portion, but not too big so people don’t feel weighed down by one combination. Seconds encouraged!
- Lastly, don’t forget the drinks! Chill a bottle of rose, champagne or some soft drinks! Regardless, toast to great eats and a great film!

How do you like your popcorn? I have to admit, Aaron made a serving while I was putting together this post and he likes ALL the toppings, me? I’m just a butter and salt kind of gal with a side of gummy bears!
Happy Friday babes! It’s the perfect weekend to download Pitch Perfect 3 on iTunes! Aca-awesome!
Thanks so much for reading!
