Before we welcomed Poppy into our family, quiet mornings at home were some of my favorites. I had my weekday routine down as well my weekend routine and I loved the predictability of both. After she arrived, I felt like I’d never have a routine again since we were just trying to survive day to day life (so stressful since I thrive on routine). Everyone told me that routine would eventually come and now that she’s three months old, I finally feel like we’re settling into our new normal which also means I have somewhat of a morning routine again, even if it is quite different that pre-Poppy. Hallelujah!
MY NEW MOM MORNING ROUTINE
7:00-7:15 AM: I’m usually up a bit before this time, but if not, my alarm goes off about 6:50 AM. Typically Poppy is awake, but if she’s not I go into her room and wake her. I’ll unzip her sleep sack and I love how she automatically stretches. She is always so happy during this time, so it’s fun to see her big smile even if I am still SO tired and need 10+ more hours of sleep.
7:15 – 7:30 AM: While Poppy has crib time, I sneak down into the kitchen and drink a large glass of water and make my morning coffee. It’s reminiscent of my old morning routine waiting for it to brew, but it’s certainly not the same because I’m enjoying the coos I can hear from upstairs. One of the best things about this time is the new Coffee-mate® Dessert Creamer I recently found at Walmart. Who doesn’t want Cookie’s & Cream coffee for breakfast?! SO GOOD and better than my local coffee shop. Once I’ve perfected my coffee, I head back up to Pop’s room.
7:30-8:00 AM: Poppy nurses while I nurse my coffee and I mentally think about what I need to accomplish for the day. Sometimes it’s just as simple as showering (life with a baby is rough some days friends!).
8:00 – 8:15 AM: My first cup of coffee with my Coffee-mate® Dessert Creamer is almost gone and it’s cold by now, but I still drink it because cold coffee doesn’t bother me, Poppy and I have some tummy time in the nursery until she gets frustrated (mommas, you know what I’m talking about).
8:15 – 8:45 ish AM: During this time, Poppy is “playing” on a mat or having crib time. Sometimes I’m with her and sometimes I’m folding laundry, letting her play on her own.
8:45 – 9:00 AM: She’s getting put back down for a nap!
9:00 – 10:30 AM: On a good day, she’ll nap a full 1.5 hours and during this time, I sneak down for round 2 of coffee (I am a 2nd cup of coffee person almost every day). Then, it’s either “me” time like showering or “GSD” time like answering emails, doing household chores, etc. Sipping coffee while answering emails makes me feel like my old self and I cannot wait until the mornings warm up a bit and I can take this task outside on our patio. There is nothing better than a big oversized sweater, warm coffee sweetened with Coffee-mate® Dessert Creamers and the morning air.
10:30 – 11:00 AM: Feed Poppy and I won’t lie, I typically play games on my phone (admittedly, Candy Crush is my current favorite and I embarrassed even typing this).
11:00 – 12 PM: At this point, our routine kind of repeats from the morning, but now we’re downstairs and I’m finishing my coffee and thinking about lunch. Poppy is usually having some time in her swing, or bouncy seat and if she’s in a good mood I’m getting some things checked off the list like more emails or household items.
12 PM – Lunch (if I’m lucky and remember to eat!). The struggle is real mommas.
It’s not the most glamorous mom morning routine, but for now, it’s ours. I’m so thankful that I’m able to be home with Poppy right now because she’s changing every day and I love being able to soak in every moment. I’m also SUPER thankful for Coffee-mate® Dessert Creamers because they’ve completely elevated my morning coffee and even if I haven’t showered in a few days (oy), I somehow still feel human with a delicious cup of coffee in my hand.
Seriously, next time you’re at Walmart, check out all three flavors (Cookies & Cream, Toasted Marshmallow Mocha and Coconut Caramel Latte) which you’ll easily locate in the dairy section. And if you’re lucky, you may get to experience an in-store sampling event, too (to see if your Walmart store is participating be sure to stop by May 10-13th)! You don’t have to be a momma to fall in love with them, or even a morning person! In fact, I’ve been known to throw a K-cup in our coffee machine in the evenings when I need a sweet treat but don’t want the ice cream calories! Haha, but seriously, Coffee-mate® Dessert Creamers are saving my sweet tooth! Want more details or inspiration for the new Coffee-mate Dessert Creamers? Head HERE!
Have a great day friends, I’d love to know what your morning routine looks like!
