I remember creating our wedding registry and just picking everything so hastily. For our wedding, I picked square plain white dishes and then proceeded to pick square bowls, cups, etc. Everything needed to match apparently in my eyes back then and as time went on, I started hating the square shape of our dishes. My décor is definitely more traditional, so square everything seemed much too modern for my taste. But over time, I stopped hating them and just kind of embraced them. The saving grace? They are plain white.
I love pretty printed dishes full of color and fun (I mean, did you read this post?) but for me, white dishes are the foundation for what all that color and fun should be built around. When I was in Aurora, NY visiting the Mackenzie-Childs‘ farm last summer, they introduced the group to Sweet Briar, their all new white line that is the most beautiful collection I have ever seen. So, once it was released, I was absolutely thrilled to start my collection. Its design is intricate, but all white and perfect for the basis of your dish collection (and your bridal registry which MC offers now!). To say I am so pleased that Mackenzie-Childs came out with a white line is an understatement. Here are a few reasons why white dishes stand the test of time and are so easy to fit the style of anyone.
- You can literally mix and match anything with white dishes and it goes. As I continue to build my dishes (my dream is to have sets upon sets for mix and matching), I also use different napkins (much more affordable), napkin rings, tablecloths, etc. to always change up my tablescape.
-
Piggy backing off #1, white dishes are perfect for any and all holidays.
- An all-white table is also gorgeous, classic and clean that can be “dressed” down or up. I’ve now paired my Sweet Briar with my mother-in-law’s flatware, our gold flatware and also our everyday flatware that’s pretty plain jane.
- Versatility in Decor! Not only do they go with your table linens, other dishes, etc. but they go with ANY room décor.
- Food looks elegant and appetizing popping out from white in my opinion. Think about it, restaurants always use white dishware. Coincidence? I think not.
You can see from above, that I took a few of my favorite Mackenzie-Childs pieces and put together a few different place settings. I am in love with how the other collections (even the black and white Courtly Check) just bring out the beauty in not only their own prints, but the Sweet Briar. And while we’ve been using our Sweet Briar day in and day out, I’m still hanging onto my square set because you just never know when I’ll need some modern dishes for a tablescape vision I have. But that’s the thing I love about dishes, you never need a full set, just a few mixed and matched pieces along the way!
I’d love to know what dishes you registered for when you got married, or if you’re not married, what’s on your wishlist!? I hope some MC, it’s the best!
