The Best Baby Bath Products for Penelope’s Bath Time Routine:
I can’t even believe that Penelope is sitting in the big kid bathtub and trying to stand on the edges. It literally seems like one day ago that we were washing her in this baby tub and being oh-so gentle. When we first moved into the house, I had some canvas prints made for her bathroom (of her during bath time) and it’s amazing how much she’s changed since those were printed.
For those that are curious, Penelope gets a bath every other night. And typically, bath time a family affair in our home. When Aaron is home, he’s the “bath master” and I’m the one who gets everything else ready (towels, washcloths, PJs, etc.). I thought it might be fun to share a little bit about the best baby bath products and our routine today. We recently switched to SheaMoisture Baby Raw Shea, Chamomile & Argan Oil Wash & Shampoo, we pick it up at Walmart, and it makes her hair smell so good!
6:30 PM: If it’s a bath night, we head up from dinner once hands, faces, etc. have been wiped. I’ll start to fill the tub about an 1/8 of the way up while Aaron undresses Penelope and makes sure she doesn’t have anything stinky in her diaper (if she does, we wipe, then dip, then rinse, then refill the tub).
6:35 PM: Bath time starts! P actually loves the bath now that she can sit up her own! We wash her hair and body with SheaMoisture Baby Raw Shea, Chamomile & Argan Oil Wash & Shampoo while she plays with her bath toys (these are our favorites). I recently switched to this line because it’s 100% Raw Shea Butter, so it’s super hydrating for these super dry winter months!
6:40 PM: After she’s been washed and rinsed and smells like a little princess, we let her play for a few minutes—splashing, trying to stand (while momma holds her), laughing and eating toys. She would stay in the bath much longer but since she’s so little still, we pluck her out and get on with our get on!
6:45 PM: Mom picks her up out of bath and we dry off with an adorable towel most likely.
6:50 PM: Once she’s dry (it takes a bit because she has a lot of hair!), we use SheaMoisture Baby Raw Shea, Chamomile & Argan Oil Lotion and lube her up (also picked up at Walmart!). It smells just as good as the baby wash, and I may or may not use it on my hands after I’ve used sanitizer (because, you know, babies…).
6:55 PM: After girlfriend is washed, dried and put into a fleece sleeper (we love these), she gets read a few books while she finishes her bottle from dinner time.
7:00 PM: Then, much to her dismay, she gets her teeth “brushed” with a clean warm washcloth. You guys, just as washing and moisturizing your baby is important (can’t recommend SheaMoisture enough), getting into good brushing habits is so important, too (my father-in-law was a pediatric dentist so we know ALLL about this). I also think the ingredients are calming thanks to the smells they offer.
7:05 PM: At this time, lights go dark, sound machine goes on, and Poppy gets rocked and sung her song (“Your Song” by Elton John is my favorite to sing her). At this point, she’s ready. She lays her head on me and when I put her down, she automatically rolls onto her belly and is ready for the door to close.
7:10 PM: FREE TIME FOR MOM AND DAD! 🙂
Honestly, yes, bath time is so routine and rarely changes, but I love it because 90% of the time, it’s us as a family, spending time together laughing, reading, and chasing naked baby butts to get sleepers on!
Is this pretty standard? I’d love to know how your routine differs! What do you think are the best baby bath products?
