Remember a LONG time ago when I posted about MyHeritage DNA in my Babblebox before we moved? Well, after we moved in and unpacked I was sure we were settled. Then a few months ago I found a lonely little unpacked box in the unfinished part of our basement that had the unopened kit. So I decided it would be fun to send it in and see what this body is made of (DNA wise). My great grandmother on my dad’s side is full Cherokee Indian. Making me interested to see if any of that would show up in my Myheritage DNA results.
The process was quick and easy. You literally follow the step by step instructions which includes a cheek swab kit and an envelope for return. After that’s all finished, you create your account online through the easy step-by-step instructions and register your kit with a specific code. Then, it’s a waiting game. Easey Peasey!
After 3-4 weeks, I got an email letting me know that my Myheritage DNA results profile was ready. I like that everything is online so you don’t have to worry about juggling paper copies of something so interesting. You simply click on the link in your email and find out who you are!
MyHeritage DNA Results
Turns out, I’m made up of pretty boring stuff, LOL. I’m mostly North and West European with some English (which I knew based on my maiden name) and then some Baltic (huh, how interesting). While I loved knowing where my DNA stems from, I find the most interesting part of MyHeritage to be your DNA matches. I have over 12,000 DNA matches in the database which is pretty crazy if you think about it. Science quite literally blows my mind.
I am so intrigued by it now, that I kind of want to buy one for each of my family members so we can build a family tree through MyHeritage (it would make such great gifts for holidays). We don’t really have anything like this in our family (like some do). So I think it would be amazing to gift a box to my immediate family members. Doesn’t that seem like such a fun family activity?
I’ve been trying to get Aaron to purchase a box because he’s Jewish, and I’d love to see what his results are. It’s just such an interesting thing to look into and discover. I feel like the website has so many endless things to explore that I haven’t even had the chance to delve into anything yet!
Have you ever received any Myheritage DNA results before? If you have, I’d love to know what your experience was. But if not, I encourage you to purchase a MyHeritage kit for yourself or a family member. At some point I know Penelope is going to need a family tree and I’d like to know I’m sharing a DNA backed one instead of relying on my member, or my mom and dads (sorry guys!).
Now, to explore some more and pour some coffee…

I, too, did all of this through 23 & me. Very fun. I bought kits for my adult children and husband. Ended up returning all of the males kits…apparently….hundreds of people are finding out they have children unbeknownst to them! Actually you do not even have to submit yourself. If someone in your family submits…your DNA is in database. I have heard of 3 acquaintances that each fathered twins from 50 years ago! 3 sets of twins! Sealed adoption records mean nothing anymore. Not saying good or bad….just saying… So FYI on this topic.
