Hi friends. How are you? Seriously. What a crazy scary time we’re living in, but thank you for coming to say hi. I hope this finds you healthy and safe. I know we’re all bored, but let’s try to remember what our own self-quarantine is doing for this virus and our growth curve. I want to put together my thoughts on all this and will soon, but for now I wanted to share something a little more light-hearted; a peak into our living room.
Our new living room is quite different than our last that felt very compact and cozy. This one is double story, large and bright. There were many things I loved about our last one (like the amazing coffered ceilings), but I can’t help but love the natural light this space has to offer as well. When we moved in, I was definitely intimidated by the tall ceilings and thought to myself “how will I decorate them?” But the truth is, I wont. Sure, down the line, Aaron and I would love to do some wood work above and maybe even do something to the fire place, but I also don’t want it to feel overdecorated. Enter my favorite artwork from Grandin Road, our Herons. We actually got these for this room reveal, but they ended up being too big for the space and we moved them into the living room of our last house (photo below). I personally loved them where they were in the last house, but I hated that from the chair or sofa, you didn’t get a full view of them. So, when I saw this GIANT wall in our new house, I knew exactly where my faithful friends would go.
The amount of love I have for these is extreme. Sure, they aren’t original paintings or even that expensive, but I love the dramatic impact they make and they are really great quality, too (much like everything I’ve purchased from Grandin Road. I love how dark and moody they are, which plays on the brightness of the room and really anchors the space. And while they’re big (we have the larger size), the don’t feel forced or TOO big.
Pictured in old home, see what I mean about them being blocked? They basically took up the whole wall, but you truly could only appreciate them when you walked by them. And trust me, P touching them each time she walked into the garage was also not ideal.

And now, brighter, higher and really the stars of our new living room.
At first, I actually wanted to hang them almost ground level with some ottomans in front, but after I bought this sofa table, I knew they’d be perfect above it and PERFECT for filling the big empty wall. Sure, there is still so much wall above them, but I really appreciate letting them take center stage and it’s my favorite wall of our living room.
It’s the small things (or in this case, big Herons) that make me happy. Hoping to share this space with y’all soon in more detail, but since this little areas is <almost> finished, I thought, “hey, why not!”
Much love to you friends and coffee of course. If I didn’t link something below, feel free to comment or just ask!
