Hi guys! So I signed up to do the One Room Challenge this spring and then completely dropped the ball last week when it opened for links. WOOF. I’m hoping I can jump into this week (links open on Wednesday nights – Sunday nights), but I still wanted to do my first preview because I’m pumped about it. I have seen a lot of people do the ORC and it seemed super fun and a great way to connect with other home decor and lifestyle bloggers, so fingers crossed it’s a great experience. You can head to the site to read all the fun projects everyone is working on, too!
One Room Challenge
Anywho…we’ve chatted a lot about our new house and I’ve even shared some spaces with y’all like here, here and here. When we moved in one of the things I loved about the space was the fact that it had a mudroom. Our last house had the garage attached to the living room, so you’d have to carry groceries, purses, etc. all through the house to get to a drop zone. I didn’t hate it, but now that we have a drop zone space, life just seems so much easier. Our mudroom is practically off the kitchen, but separated by a small hallway and our pantry. So while it’s a more hidden room in the house, you can see a large portion of it from the kitchen. When we moved in, it was U.G.L.Y and lacked any charm. Even though it’s a small space, I knew it could be small but mighty, so I told Aaron this was the space I wanted to revamp for the ORC.
Here is what it looked like when we moved in:
As you can see, it has a ton of storage (three closets and the bench is storage as well), which I love. The garage door is next to the bench (not pictured).
With a little love, I know this space can be better than the “ok” it was when we bought the house, so today, I wanted to kick off the ORC by sharing my mood board with y’all!
Here is what I’m thinking:
- This wallpaper from Livette’s (I am beyond obsessed) and y’all may remember me hanging it on Instastories.
- Hooks similar to these once we create the bench and backing with board and batten.
- Some decor for the shelf area we plan to build on top of board and batten. Something similar to this, this, this and this.
- Hanging some sort of roman shade for single window.
- Maybe a basket for throwing shoes? Or dog leashes?
- Organization pieces, I already have these and love them.
- And of course, I’ll probably add in some antiques, because y’all know I love them!
To Do During Challenge (some of which has been done, but I’m not revealing yet!:
- Replace bench top / Build board and batten backing with shelf
- Paint board and batten + bench
- Repaint all trim
- Add quarter round back in and paint
- Hang wallpaper
- Hand Curtains
- Paint Dog Bowls (currently white, painting black)
- Paint doors black (all four of them)
- Hang decorative accents
- Decorate!
We’ve almost finished this room and I’ll be sharing the little updates here and there, but I’ve been saving some pain in the butt parts for last because I’m lazy. Regardless, I’ve got time (7 more weeks), so I hope you enjoy following along this little revamp!
Maybe I’ll start some of the painting today? MMM….
Coffee will help me decide.
