Penelope is definitely getting more comfortable in front of the TV which is great when I’m making dinner or really in a pinch, but it’s also frustrating when she just wants to watch Baby John (which is actually annoying, but educational) and not do much else. Quarantine has definitely been challenging with not that many places to go and things to go, but Aaron and I have really been trying to limit screen time which means more play time outside. We have a neighborhood pool, but as I’m sure you mommas can relate, somedays the pool is such a task (HA), so today I thought it might be fun to share what outdoor toys for toddlers we’ve been loving for our outdoor time. The best thing is that they’re all relatively inexpensive and have proven to provide ample amount of entertainment for P (she’s 2.5 for reference).
Outdoor Toys for Toddlers
- play tent: Okay, we don’t actually have this YET, but I’m buying it. It has so many accessories and I thought it would be adorable fro yard play.
- kiddie pool: Even with the pool next door, we use our little backyard pool a ton. I can weed or work on a computer while she entertains herself with toys and water (but most of the time I just play with her in it).
- garden wagon: Mommy’s big helper with this set and I’m not complaining.
- bouncy ball: So surprised how much joy $3 ball from grocery store could bring.
- bubble gun: We love bubbles. I recently bought this for a friend’s son and he loves it.
- rocket launcher: This one was fun for the whole family.
- scooter: We bought P a balance bike for Christmas, but I think she’s still a little too young, this has been a great alternative for her.
- water table: Endless hours of fun, seriously.
- basketball hoop: We have a large hoop, but this one is more her size and comes with multiple balls.
- toss ball game: Great for little ones with sub-par hand eye coordination.
I forgot to add this little water sink my girlfriend told me about, but we absolutely love it. Heck, I even play with it.
I am not against screen time, but I am pro-limiting it. I want Penelope to play outside a ton like I did growing up and I don’t care if that means we have a plastic jungle of toys outside (although we keep them stored in here which is also helpful).
I would love to know what outdoor toys for toddlers are keeping your kiddos entertained? Share them below in the comments, I can add them to the post!
Thanks for reading as always friends. Now I need a big ole’ iced coffee!

I would love to have a basketball hoop for my little one but we have very limited space in New Delhi apartments. And I am a total anti screen mama 😀
