P has had a LOT of rooms in her mere 2.5 years of life; Durham, the old house, our temporary apartment and now this one (which will hopefully be her room for MANY years to come). I have loved each of them for many different reasons, but this one might be my favorite thanks to this Anewall Sweet Laurel mural (more on that below) paper I used. I actually adored her nursery in the last home we had, but when we moved I wanted something a little more sophisticated so that Penelope could grow with it. We actually have plans to start the transition to a “big girl” bed around the time she turns three (in December), and I think this wallpaper in her current pink and floral nursery will look just as beautiful with a normal bed and end tables as it does with the nursery furniture.
Penelope’s Pink and Floral Nursery
As you can see, all of her furniture remained the same, but we did switch out the over crib decor for this 48 Hour Monogram Name (love it) and the rugs. The biggest difference is definitely the paper which I am just smitten with. Remember the movie Secret Garden? It reminds me of that. For install, I choose a pre-pasted paper option and honestly, I really enjoyed putting this up. It was my first attempt at “real wallpaper” and I was pleasantly surprised by how easy the pre-pasted option was. Hanging it took me about 2 days, but that’s also working in between having a toddler and nap times, so maybe 8-10 hours total? The Sweet Laurel design I choose is actually meant to be a mural, but Anewall took my measurements for the repeat and then made sure it all went together smoothly (they also # the panels for easy install), plus, they were just so dang nice to work with.
This room is kind of awkward because it has A LOT of doors (closet, door to hall and then bathroom door), so there isn’t much room for furniture manipulation. Should be fun with a queen sized bed! We actually just started a small renovation in her bathroom (which is a Jack n’ Jill bath) to the bedroom on the other side. I’ll share more about that project later.
A few little tidbits about the decor in here that makes this room special. That giant wishbone was the first thing I purchased when I found out I was pregnant, Aaron thought it was so ugly, but I knew it would look adorable in the nursery and I personally feel like I was right. It’s not as yellow-gold as the pictures make it look and it’s so fun to look at and remember that time. Another little favorite thing of mine is that brass rocking horse on her dresser. I find these antiquing (and one was a gift) and actually have three. When Aaron asked me why I keep buying them I told him that I want each of our kids to have one for their rooms (yes, we only have one child right now, but I’m planning ahead and figured I would at most need three). I love that I get to mix old and new a little in this space (more on that here). Just some small little anecdotes for you this Friday morning. 🙂

Now, coffee and LOTs of work so I can enjoy the weekend. Happy Friday friends and thanks for reading!
