Howdy friends, did you get some good outdoor toy ideas from yesterday’s post? I hope so! Today I’m taking you into our living room where we spend a lot of time as a family. We haven’t changed this room TOO much, but we have made some changes with our living room furniture as well as purchased a few pieces that make a big statement. The biggest change you’ll notice from the “before” photo below is the chandelier switch out. We replaced the rustic looking ceiling fan for this Safavieh chandelier and I absolutely love it. Aaron was super nervous we’d regret removing a ceiling fan, but honestly, our A/C works well and I tend to run slightly cold anyway and I haven’t missed it at all. I feel like the light just makes more sense in here vs. the smallish ceiling fan, we’ve already got so many compliments on it and not many people have been over thanks to COVID!
We had a lot of furniture before moving into this house since we lived in a house before, but the living room is one space we kind of started fresh. We purchased this sectional and this swivel chair that we’ve been extremely happy with, but since we purchased the matching ottoman to the sectional, it didn’t leave much room for a coffee table. Aaron wanted to forgo a table, but I didn’t (where do you put your drink?). I couldn’t find anything I liked in the space that also fit until this fun table from Safavieh came into view. It’s perfect for the space and I love that you can move them around at your liking. It actually comes as a set of four, but we only needed three, so we’re using the other end in our finished basement right now.
I had actually purchased these lights to flank the TV, but it ended up being a bit too much, so they went into Aaron’s office to flank his mirror. I still love how they peek out from his office doors when open. You’ll notice many are Safavieh pieces and I’ve posted about my love for the brand before, I think their price points are great and also the quality. Other little statement pieces I love for the space are our bird artwork (more on those here), this fun mirror, a fun floor lamp (everyone knows I love pineapples), layered rugs, my beloved ginger jars, a head planter I spray painted black (love this one) and then my beloved gold elephant. This was actually a gift from my mother in law this past Christmas after a few very challenging months; it was her mother’s and I’ve loved it since I first saw it in her house when I met Aaron 12 years ago. It’s one of my favorite belongings.
Here is that the room likes like before:
Living Room Furniture
We actually live in this space as you can see from Georgia’s dog bed, Penelope’s basket of toys and the blanket basket that’s stuffed with our favorite throws. While I always want our home to be “pretty,” I never want it to feel unwelcoming or stiff, so it’s important to me that people sit on the couch, mess up the cushions and make themselves comfortable. All of these little statement pieces from Safavieh and other vendos make it pleasing to look at, but it’s the laughter and family movie nights on the couch that make it feel like home.
Still to come to this room:
- Paint fireplace brick (still debating black vs. white)
- Do some soft of wall treatment above fireplace and up to ceiling
- add either beams or crown molding
- possibly remove 1/2 wall between living room and breakfast room
- get fireplace working (haha, but wont worry about this until winter!)
- Add electric blinds to upper windows
Thanks for reading friends, if I missed linking something feel free to shoot me an email or ask in the comments!
Tomorrow I’m sharing an outdoor space with y’all! But first, coffee and editing!

I just love everything in your living room. They way you put it together is just breathtaking. I fell in love with your coffee teardrop tables. They are amazing. They are a conversation starter. I just am in love with them. And of course I love your blue and white chinoiserie vases. Probably since I have them in my formal Dining room and bedroom. You just gave me some wonderful ideas. I am in the process of redoing my living room and I am so stuck. And I can’t forget how your added the skin rug over the regular rug. What a fantastic idea. You just gave so much inspiration. Now I just need the energy. LOL
