I said this would be up yesterday, but I forgot I had written out my fried green tomato post (are you making them this weekend, you should?), so my apologies. 🙂 Today I wanted to step into our back yard and share our little updated back patio area with y’all; just like our front stoop this space has come A LONG way since we moved in in January, and still has a long way to go, but some goodies Grandin Road sent over have made this a space we can actually enjoy and be proud of while we continue it’s transformation!
Our Summer Back Patio
We actually found out this week that while we thought our house had been vacant for around 9 months, it was actually vacant for three years! OY. You could definitely tell by the landscaping (or lack thereof) and the state of the pavers, etc. While we plan on fixing all of it and getting proper landscaping sometime soon, for this year we decided to just make do and try to transform the space for our enjoyment. Grandin Road sent over this adorable Yorkshire patio sofa and chair and Aaron and I added the two matching tables because we loved the set so much. If you saw my living room post, you know I love navy/black/creams, so I took that color scheme outside to our patio area and continued it with the Blue and White striped umbrella, outdoor pillows, bird bath, Outdoor Rug (we have a smaller version in the front!) and Piped seat cushions for our dinning set. While I hate the cream color of our stucco right now, I think this set is going to pop so much more next spring when we paint the entire house white! I love the mixture of navy and black with lighter colors, I just think it’s so pretty.
Where the Trenton Fire Pit is used to be an old/rusted out fire pit, but we removed it and while we plan to build something more permanent in a few years, for now we’re loving this little pit and it’s copper/wrought iron detailing! I love it even more when it’s used for making S’mores! In addition some fun little features like the outdoor mirror and large planters give the space a little character which I love and Aaron built garden boxes this summer which I’m really enjoying (we have tomatoes and they’re so good!).
The space is a little hard to “decorate” since there are three exterior doors, but I’ve used these Baxter Lanterns at each entry point, these rugs and LOTS of flower pots to give them each a little something. I also made asked Aaron to hang some twinkle lights, because is a patio even worth sitting on without some (we got ours at Costco)?!?
Even though I love summer (and all of these AMAZING new goodies from Grandin Road), I’m looking forward to fall already so we can light more fires and enjoy this space a little more since it’s been SO HOT outside. Overall, this space came together really well and now I just want to enjoy it the rest of the season/next season!
Now, our famous list of still to-do’s to this area! You can read some others here, here and here. Some of these coincide with the front list…
- Re-do patio completely (this is a long term plan, no time soon)
- Build pergola (so we have some shaded space, for now the umbrellas definitely help!)
- Replace some wood rot back doors
- Plant more landscaping
- Paint house next spring (brick & trim — not doing ourselves, but trying to convince Aaron to do ourselves, I could be crazy)
- Grow/Fix grass
- Install irrigation system (we spend like an hour a day watering)
- Get swing set for Poppy (she loves to swing!)
Make sure you check out Grandin’s end of summer sale going on now and they’re starting to release their fall stuff (which I love already!).
In the meantime, who wants to come over for wine?! But maybe a cup of coffee first.
