Hi friends! I know I said I’d have the playhouse reveal this week and I promise it’s coming! My computer has been out of memory for awhile now (too many photos saved), so it’s forced me to start backing things up so I can make room for the playhouse photos! I have found that everything is taking a little longer than anticipated these days! Anyway, today I wanted to chat about diaper rash remedies. I know, not very glamorous, but ever since we brought Shep home, we’ve been battling it hardcore! He has so many bowel movements (which is really common for babies his age) and his poor little bottom was looking so painful. Luckily, he didn’t seem to really be bothered by it, but if you’re a new mom (or a pro), it’s sure to make your heart hurt. After consulting with our pediatrician, a neighbor friend who is also a pediatrician and some trial and error, I thought I’d share some tips for preventing it (or treating it once you have it!).
Diaper Rash Remedies
- First and foremost, get yourself a great diaper rash cream. We absolutely love Triple Paste. It’s really thick which is great for treating diaper rash and came highly recommended from our Peds. Apparently the zinc oxide is really good for the baby bums! It’s also endorsed by the Eczema Association so it has multiple uses!
- Change diapers often. I know some parents let wet diapers sit and I get it, changing constantly is a pain, but when babies are so small, it’s best to try and change them often to prevent rashes, there is only so much Triple Paste can do!
- Make sure diapers fit. Pretty self explanatory, but you don’t want something too tight for baby! It might be time to size up!
- Use baby detergents (or fragrance free options) and also avoid buying diapers/wipes with fragrances. Triple Paste is free of dyes and fragrances for the very reason that fragrances can cause irritation.
- Clean baby’s bottom thoroughly every few days. We don’t wash Shepard very often, but every few days we’ll give his bottom a little wipe with a warm cloth.
- Be gentle. When wiping/cleaning, make sure you’re being very gentle as to not rub too hard and irritate the skin!
Basically following these tips helped clear Shepard’s diaper rash up in a few days. Now, we keep a giant Triple Paste in every “changing area.” It’s a game changer when combined with the other tips above.
